The Graduate School of Human Sexuality at Shu-Te University was established and recognized by the Taiwan Ministry of Education in May, 2000 and the doctoral program was later on offered in 2006. Its mission is to train advanced researchers and professionals in the field of human sexuality.

OBJECTIVE
The objectives set by the graduate school are:
1) establish the professional status and research base for sexology in Taiwan, 2) improve teaching and research in sexuality through the viewpoint of being humanistic, 3) train students to become professionals and teachers of sexuality, 4) engage in academic exchange and collaboration with worldwide communities of school researchers and university professors to promote its academic standard and fame internationally. In this connection, the curriculum is subdivided into 3 fields: sexual education, sexual counseling, and sexual society in offering professional knowledge.
PROSPECTS FOR QRADUATES
The doctoral degree program provides graduates professional development and orientation.
The doctoral degree program offers the opportunity for students with a master’s degree to participate in research projects.
The program promotes academic sexology and professional expertise. It also offers a great deal of research and supervision practice applicable to social organizations, hospitals, and prevention centers. There are 152 universities in Taiwan that offer general education or liberal arts courses about human relationships and family and marriage. Out of the 152 universities, there are 129 research institutes or departments that touch on gender research, anthropology, educational counseling, psychology, health education, nursing, etc that need opportunities for further research and which there is a demand for a large number of teachers. There are 356 non-governmental organizations that devote themselves to research and in offering graduates advanced guidance in the chosen area of expertise nation-wide.
Graduates have more opportunities for career excellence
As a result of the Gender Equity Education and Grade 1-9 Curriculum developed by the government, school graduates are employed in a variety of settings which includes education, social work, public welfare, foundation, the media, medicine and nursing, research, and administrative positions. As the Sexology Program has excellent professional knowledge and skills, many opportunities arise for greater linkages outside of Taiwan in relation to career advancement and further research opportunities. Since there are 15 universities with sexology programs throughout Asia, such as the Southern College and New Era College of Malaysia, Medical University, Normal University and University of Humanities and Social Sciences of Vietnam, 32 sexuality research institutes in China, other than, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, and India, sexuality researchers and professors are in high demand.
Future prospects for the department
1) publish e-journals on sexology. 2) initiate trends in domestic sexuality research . 3) carry out exchange and collaboration with the worldwide community of school researchers, university professors in the fields of sexuality. 4) promote sexuality educator certification standards implemented by the government.
