Introduction of College of Applied Social Science

INTRODUCTION

 Guiding students to practice and application that promote students’ understanding and related knowledge toward what families and society need, and improve the quality of society further.

 Inculcating and training students to have diverse sense and open to different cultures, and offering students opportunities to participate social life.

 Centering on students’ whole-human development, combining theory with practical training and helping students to set up their confidence and self-esteem.

 Building up the knowledge base of humane and social science, impowering students’ specialty of foreign language, early childhood care and education and sexuality, and strengthening their ability of the social and economical application and service.

 Researching and developing knowledge across different fields and countries to interchange ideas and offer service globally.

POSITION

The College of Applied Social Science was established in August, 1990 and has 2 departments, 2 graduate schools and 2 centers up to now. The Department (graduate school) of Early Childhood Care and Education is going to be renamed to Department (graduate school) of Childhood and Family Service in the academic year 2009.

The college’s goal is to train up “world citizens” who are with international view and active quality in social organizations. In the curriculum plan, the college emphasizes the importance of the spirit and principal of communication, cooperation and innovation to match up the plan of specialized programs and the course module, and combines related knowledge of humane and social science to apply to individuals, families and the society. Students can continue their advanced studies or contribute their specialties to work in public or private organizations, business companies or social organizations and communities to help disadvantaged minority.

The College of Applied Social Science attaches importance to practical training and make sure that students have practical experiences in school, in order to provide service to the society. For integrating the philosophy of social development and abilities of practical professional, and gathering experts and brain trusts of humane and social science research internally, the college of applied social science sat up the Graduate School of Human Sexuality and the Non-Profit Organization Research and Development Center in 2001, Department of Early Childhood Care and Education in 2002.

In 2004, the college abolished the Non-Profit Organization Research and Development Center and established the Cross-Culture Research Center instead. The Graduate School of Human Sexuality applied for its doctoral program to Ministry of Education in 2004, and was accepted in 2006.

The college is looking forward to all professional knowledge offered by every department of the college can provide theories and applications for southern Taiwan as well as opportunities of advanced education for leadership.

PROSPECTS

The College of Applied Social Science focuses on humanity and emphasizes the importance of humane education for whole-human development, and provides advanced “technological academic、training and ability” and a college with capacity of humane and sexuality.
